These are unprecedented and challenging times that have led to several changes in the way we live. This has had repercussions also on the way healthcare is provided. The NHS in cooperation with the relevent scientific societies has provided advice for hand injury prevention during the Covid-19 pandemic. We are all working very hard in our NHS setting to provide the best possible and timely treatment to all of our patients.
As joint Lead of the Hand Unit in Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital in London I have been coordinating the response and pathway for hand injuries with our team of outstanding hand surgeons, hand therapists, nurses & the management team.
In line with the NHS guidance poster above we would recommend to avoid DIY & heavy gardening duties during this crisis as we have seen an increase in related injuries.
